How to measure for a saree inskirt (and never re-measure again)

Most inskirt sizing goes wrong for one reason: the waist is measured in the wrong place. A saree sits at the navel, not on the hip and not at the narrowest point. Measure there and the size you find will repeat, order after order.

What you need

A soft tape measure, a mirror, and two minutes. No blouse, no petticoat, just whatever you would wear the saree over.

1. Waist

Stand straight. Wrap the tape around your body at the navel, snug but not tight. You should be able to slide two fingers under it. Read the number in inches. That is your waist for GLAM.

Do not pull the tape in. The drawstring will do the tightening; your job is the true number.

2. Length

Hold the end of the tape at the navel and let it fall straight to the floor. Read the number without shoes. If you always wear heels with sarees, add the heel height.

Most women fall between 39 and 41 inches. Under 5'3", 39 is usually right. Over 5'6", 41.

Find your size

GlamLilly and GlamTara use a drawstring with a wide casing, so each size covers about four inches of waist:

Size Waist Length
L 38–42" 39"
XL 42–46" 40"
2XL 46–50" 41"

GlamViva has an elasticated stretch waist and a fixed 39" length:

Size Waist Length
M 34–38" 39"
L 38–42" 39"
XL 42–46" 39"

If you are between sizes

On Lilly and Tara, take the smaller size. The drawstring gives room; extra fabric at the waist bunches under the pleats. On Viva, take the larger size. Stretch should hold, not grip.

Write it down

Once you have worn one size through a full day and it stayed put, that is your GLAM size across every shade in that line. Save it in your account and reorder without the tape.
